2011 Outdoor site specific Installation - WWII Bunker, river stones, community work, 18’ dia. Bielsko-Biała, Poland
As part of the Beyond the time - Residency program for Galerie Bielsko BWA, an outdoor site specific community installation was created for the city of Bielsko-Biała, Poland. The Rose sits on top of a Nazi bunker in front of City Hall. A remnant from Poland’s history in WWII. One symbol covers another symbol. The Biała River and the shield of biala are the catalysts for the large installation work. At the center of the rose is an eye. It is the eye of nature watching us. Poland is now going through many negative changes very quickly in it's attitude toward the preservation of their remarkable nature. More than 18 individuals, children, teenagers and adults participated in the making of The Rose. The installation includes a small quantity of river rocks that were gathered for their symbolic value from the Biała river next to the bunker in an intervention in association with members of Klub Gaja, one of the most important environmental groups in Poland and Europe.

In my travels throughout Europe, The Caribbean and North Africa, I noticed every town had a Grave to the Unknown Soldier. I felt part of our story was missing. Women have played a major part and continue to play a part in the fight for piece throughout the world, although they often do not wear uniforms and receive medals.
